THE MACHINISTS UNION IS WORKING FOR YOU!!!

  • Your union, IAM Local W-384, is hard at work to ensure the MCI Pembina plant stays open! The full resources of the IAM—including support from IAM District 5, the Midwest Territory, and the Grand Lodge Legislative and Communications Departments—are fully engaged in this fight.
  • Over the past few months, your union has been holding meetings with: U.S. Senators Kevin Cramer and John Hoeven and U.S. Representative Kelly Armstrong; North Dakota State Senator Janne Myrdal and North Dakota Representatives Chuck Damschen and David Monson; Governor Doug Burgum and local elected officials on how vital the Pembina plant is to the North Dakota economy.
  • We scheduled a  meeting with Rep. Albio Sires (NJ-8) on Friday, May 21.
  • Your IAM representatives have requested information from the company so we can adequately understand the potential loss of work at the Motor Coach (MCI ) Pembina, North Dakota facility.
  • We will keep up the good fight! Please contact your steward if you want to help or if you have any questions.

STRIKE SANCTION VOTE

LOCAL LODGE W384 TO HOLD STRIKE SANCTION VOTE

To take place at the Pembina Community Center on June 16, 2020.  Polls will be open from 5:30 am until 6:00 pm.   Our monthly local lodge meeting will be at 4:30 pm the same day.

What is a strike sanction?   It is a procedural vote required by the IAM Constitution, it is a vote taken before we even sit down at the table with the company.  The vote is in no way an indication of a strike.  It is instead carried out for the purpose of doing two things:

1. A SHOW OF SOLIDARITY.   It demonstrates that the members of a bargaining unit are behind their Negotiating Committee.   It gives us power at the negotiating table.

2. PROVIDE LEGAL NOTICE TO THE IAM GRAND LODGE.  The initial vote provides advance notice to the Grand Lodge so that members will receive strike benefits without any undue delay IF they vote to strike after voting on the contract offer.

Without strike sanctioning, we cannot strike later, and will have no leverage in negotiations.  It is very important that you participate in this vote.  Without the support of our members we cannot enforce our demands at the table.

WE HOPE TO HAVE A 100% STRIKE SANCTION VOTE!!!!

MCI AND LLW384 CONTRACT UPDATE

Tell Congress to Pass the PRO Act

We’re asking you to help us urge all House members to vote “yes” on the Protecting the Rights to Organize (PRO) Act.

TAKE ACTION: Tell your member of Congress to vote “yes” on the PRO Act

The PRO Act (H.R. 2474), introduced in May by House Education and Labor Committee chairman Bobby Scott (D-VA) and cosponsored by 214 Democrats, would amend the National Labor Relations Act to broaden workers’ rights to strike and unionize.

Machinists Union International President Robert Martinez Jr. recently wrote lawmakers a letter urging them to pass the PRO Act.

Martinez’s call for a “yes” vote came days after the House Education and Labor Committee approved the legislation in a 26-21 party-line vote.

The committee’s approval advanced the legislation for full House floor consideration.
